RANT - BAD PRODUCTS
Bad Products cost me time and sometimes even cost relationships with brands. But it isn't our fault that they are bad and often we as content creators get punished for calling them out. Yet they still get pushed and it isn't easy to sit back and shut up... but I have to.

    I've a feeling they're cheating, using a hybrid Bluetooth / WIFI mix - hence the transmitter. Not tech people normally get confused and assume all 'wireless' devices are Bluetooth. They aren't. Example: Some of my customers accidentally bought BT keyboards / mice for an older PC that didn't support BT, so they couldn't use the keyboard and had to return it. Why? Because they didn't understand about normal 2.4GHz wireless non-Bluetooth, as used by those little mouse/KB dongles we all use. Wifi-style transmission is virtually lag-free and I can't see any other way this can be achieved as the BT standard just doesn't support this. But hey, those clever folk at Yamaha HQ - who knows!

    Man the Roland GR33 is still the best tracking midi synth setup there is. You can snipe those for $200 easy. Put it on a cheap but fully playable guitar (there are thousands of these nowdays) and you've got a pretty impressive instrument. Thing is about midi guitar, you have to slide into the dynamics of the instrument you're imitating or inventing. If you can't approximate with your fingers, the dynamics of a saxaphone or trombone, then you're not going to sound like a saxaphone or trombone. Those two are easier than you might think, whereas piano (another stringed friggin instrument btw) never feels quite right -- to me anyway. Trumpet? French Horn? Friggin Oboe? Those are all a blast. For actual midi input into a software environment like Komplete Ultimate, I went with a Fishman Triple Play. You're talking just a little more money here but not by a lot, since you're putting it on the same cheap but good guitar. But I'm not telling anyone to get a Triple Play and Komplete Ultimate. I mean if you do that and disappear into your studio for two months, missing weddings and entire major holidays and shit... don't blame me... I warned you. But not the GR55. It's a presently overpriced but unenthusiastic upgrade from the GR33.

    • @jeffreymorris1752
      @jeffreymorris1752 5 хвилин тому

      On the GR33, don't mess with any of the guitar patches. The bass guitar patches are nice af, including the acoustic standup bass (again, learn the dynamics). The guitar patches on this guitar synthesizer though, are the worst crap ever invented, not counting the subject of this review.

    I buy i the past a „You Rock“ MIDI Guitar same build of the Neck! I buy this why, so I can’t play keyboard, with this guitar I can put single notes or chords in my DAW! It’s not a tool to play, in my opinion, it’s for guitar player they don’t play keyboard but wanna use keyboard sounds in their compositions!

    Man, it is so refreshing to hear somebody being bluntly honest about this. (That’s also why I love Glenn Fricker’s videos). Because there is so much bad products out there being sold as this so called wonderfull instrument, or so called fantastic gear. Don’t let those negative people get to you. They obviously don’t get the point. Stay positive man, you absolutely do the right thing. ❤ By the way, about that Aeroband thing. What a piece of shit that is. 😅

    it's 2024. Use audio-to-midi software of your choice, and if that doesn't work for you, go with a MIDI pickup. These products are 40 years too late. That said, I hate to be critical because it's always cool to see strange gadgets being developed, and it's often necessary to try out many bad ideas to come up with a good one. I hope they will succeed eventually.

    The truth is this! No matter what dumb product you dismiss, there will always be ordinary people online, that likes it. You can defend your name with that it all comes down to subjectivity. Just do not make the video. Simple ❤️ Love your stuff. 🙏 Even with the things you praise, there are people who hate it, so therefore it's Status Quo.

    My guitar is perfect except the same exact noise/hum that can be heard in this video when guitar is not been played. I mostly own guitars with active humbuckers and hardtail bridges so this noise is new to me. Is it because of passive single coil pickups or arent the Tesla pickups not good enough? Or is it a shielding or grounding problem? The noise is louder when playing with tube amp, solid state is not as bad.

    Casual musicians somehow think that having career in music business is different to having career in any other business. That you can be brutally honest and still maintain relations with companies. Try that in any other sales and we'll see how long you'll last. I've made gear tests some years ago for a quite influential local site. We were honest and we usually gave good notes to revieved gear. But it wasn't a paid job. It was something we all did in our free time AND we mostly picked the gear we wanted to test. As much as I believe in a power of negative opinions of someone with a good reputation, I also believe I can't expect a PROFESSIONAL TESTER to burn his ability to pay bills for my leisure. So I guess Your approach is the optimal one. So much so that while I'm not following You, because I find Your delivery irritating, I very much value Your opinion when I'm doing research before a purchase. So at least there's that! ;) Also: this is nothing new. I remember some 20 (ghhhhhhhhad I'm old) years ago we had the same issue with guitar magazines. The market in Poland is relatively small, if the magazine wanted to get advertisement deals and stuff to fill out the content, they had to cut the corners. Sometimes with a grace of eigteenwheeler going thru the middle of a shopping mall.

    It's interesting. Marshall were actually ahead of the game when they released the DRP-1 and their Valvestate amps. If they had continued in that direction, repackaged and innovated on those concepts into small pedalboard friendly units everyone's using these days they'd be killing it today. IMO

    And another new overdrive pedal hits the market , same as guitars and amps, all supposing to be better than anything seen before. Gibson bringing out yet another 59 Burst , saying this is as near as an original as you can get , same thing they said several models ago .People rely on honest reviews as it is not easy these days to test gear out before you buy and it’s a pain buying on line and having to send products back if they don’t live up to the hype given by certain reviewers .

    They should lean into a rockband style controller that simply has more fret "buttons". Play the right button, strum a specific cowboy chord with more than 4 options. Between something like that and a real midi pickup, there really does not exist a 'middle ground' ...Make a toy, or make a real musician's tool.

    If this is any consolation: I never really heard of you before. And then I started getting your videos pushed to me. But the only videos that were getting pushed were your "rant" videos. These alone made me subscribe. (I'm just a crappy guitarist who spends way too much money on gear 😂). I really appreciate you Henning , and find your attitude admirable. I have taken note of a few guitars you do not review and assume you have a bad opinion of them and that's fair. If however you haven't worked for a certain company for a while , maybe it's worth re- connecting as the guitars they made 4 years ago may now be a lot better. Anyways I think one of your videos prompted a certain Irish youtuber to keep a large shop in the UK honest about the amps they use in almost all their reviews , but weren't saying they had part ownership of the amp brand. The owner of the shop had to make a little video informing his audience of his stake in the amps. In all honesty though it was pretty obvious to me already as people who worked in said shop kept getting signature versions of these amps. I have to admit a few years ago I thought you were pushing HB a bit heavy ( especially when they first came on the scene ) but as I found out for myself when I got my hands on some of their guitars , they make great guitars for the money , and that's how gear should be judged , by what else you can get for the same price from other companies and HB often offer more bang for the buck. Don't let the paid shill comments bother you Henning 95% of your regular audience knows you are a knowledgeable , honest, decent man, giving us the best reviews possible. Also it's not mentioned enough , that you are a killer guitar player , I love to hear you play. Don't let the idiots get you down my friend!

What kind of selfish person would take in a family fleeing from war , then help set them up to continue to work in their own house, literally push him in front of the camera again to get him rolling. Really. How selfish of you Henning. (Of course I am joking, there is no font for sarcasm.) Multiple things I want to say here because I can and these are all axiomatic truisms as far as I am concerned: - there are just way too many dumb, overly impressionable people on earth these days who only blame others and never look to blame themselves for their poor decision-making processes. - anyone who buys any product or spends any money on products or services based solely on the opinions of a few youtube reviewers deserves their fate. - anyone who cannot easily discern the obvious paid shills on youtube from those that are generally honest with their opinions [like Henning] reveals far more about themselves than anything else. Hell, do you even listen to what Henning says in his vids? Even for products he LOVES he always highlights the shortcomings, everything from price, to packaging, to build quality, etc etc etc. - suddenly, reviewers like MKBHD, who DO THEIR JOBS by rendering objective, evidence-based reviews get called out as DESTROYERS OF COMPANIES? IDIOCY. Whatever happened to companies simply NOT RELEASING products/services that are clearly NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME? FAFO. Marques didn't make your garbage car or garbage AI trash product. - I watch gear reviewers and demo folks to stay current on what's new on the market. That's it. I consider no one's opinion on youtube to be gospel because my own expecations and needs are unique. Henning, don't ever change. Your opinion on gear is one of the few that I do actually take into fairly serious consideration. But even so, ultimately, I must get my hands on the gear and try it out for myself. If I decide to take a chance on a new product and end up disappointed, I better have bulletproof return policies online. Still, it's still all on me. I consider your channel and the other gear channels I choose to subscribe to and give them the honor of my time to be insights into new products on the market. That's it. mini rant over. XD Cheers!
